Rhinoplasty Specialists in Naples and Fort Myers, Florida
Revision rhinoplasty is a nasal reshaping procedure performed on an individual who has undergone a prior rhinoplasty procedure. Commonly, revision rhinoplasty patients are dissatisfied with one or more aspects of their surgical result. This can be related to uncontrolled scar contracture forces during healing from the primary operation, poor communication between the prior surgeon and patient, surgeon error, patient non-compliance post-operatively, unrealistic expectations and goals, or body dysmorphic disorder (BDD).
Because the skin has been elevated and maneuvers have been performed on the underlying cartilage and bone, there is usually some scar tissue and unpredictability to the shape of the underlying structures. For this reason, revision rhinoplasty should be undertaken by specialists who have the training and expertise required to deal with these unique intraoperative challenges. Often, cartilage grafting and scar tissue excision is required. Our surgeons utilize septal, ear, and homograft irradiated rib cartilage during revision rhinoplasty operations. Sometimes, the entire nasal skeleton must be supported and reconstructed. Knowledge of the internal and external nasal anatomy, an aesthetic eye, and attention to detail are of paramount importance.
It is useful to bring photographs from prior to the original rhinoplasty as well as detailed operative notes from any prior nasal operations. This enables our surgeons to see what maneuvers may have been performed previously while planning for your revision rhinoplasty.
